Effect of Apricot Seed and its Relation to Cancer

This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status and socio-economical status of females patients of breast cancer at Clinical Oncology Department, Menoufia University Hospital as well as the effect of amygdalin (vitamin B17) on the CBC analysis. 140 patients aged between 18 to 70 years old and distributed at three groups. group one (A) take 4 kernels/day (60 patients), group tow (B) takes 8 kernels/day (60 patients) and group three (C) set uncontrolled (20 patients). Three forms of questionnaires were used. The first for social economics status, the second for anthropometric measurements and the third includes food habits and food intake in day. Data were analyzed according to computer program in Faculty of Home Economics, Menoufia University and computerized according to SPSS program.
The anthropometric measurements showed that patients were underweight. Macro nutrition showed were less than recommended. As regard to vitamin B17, group one less than recommended while group two more than recommended.
The study recommended that Patients need to correct their food habits by using the nutrition education program. Also, improve healthy eating to support the needs daily requirements from the Nutritional elements by oral diets and supplemented with nutrient supplements for increased protein, kilocalories, vitamins and minerals.
Also, female patients with breast cancer needed to increase the vitamin B17 (Amygdalin) from nuts or apricot karnels.
